Awnings Terms & Disclaimers

Important Information

The following information applies specifically to external awnings and outdoor shading systems supplied by John’s Blinds Limited and should be read alongside the Company’s general Terms & Conditions, available here.

By placing an order for an awning, the Customer confirms acceptance of both these Awning Terms and the Company’s general Terms & Conditions.

Made-to-Measure Products

All awnings supplied by John’s Blinds Limited are manufactured to order based on measurements taken during survey and the Customer’s chosen specification.

As these products are bespoke and made to the Customer’s requirements, orders cannot be cancelled, amended or returned once manufacturing has commenced.

Payment Terms

A 50% deposit is required to confirm an order for an awning. Manufacture will not begin until the order has been confirmed.

The remaining balance must be paid upon completion of installation, delivery or collection unless otherwise agreed in writing.

All goods remain the property of John’s Blinds Limited until paid for in full.

Structural Mounting Surface

External awnings are structural products that rely on the suitability and strength of the mounting surface.

While our surveyors will assess the proposed installation location, the Company cannot guarantee the structural condition of walls, brickwork, render, cavity construction, lintels or other building materials.

If, during installation, the proposed fixing surface is found to be unsuitable or insufficiently load-bearing, the Company may:

  • recommend an alternative fixing location
  • require additional structural fixings or specialist brackets
  • postpone installation until suitable structural work has been carried out

Additional work or materials may incur additional charges.

Planning Permission & Approvals

It is the responsibility of the Customer to ensure that any planning permissions, building regulations, landlord permissions, conservation area restrictions or other approvals required for the installation of an awning have been obtained prior to installation.

John’s Blinds Limited shall not be responsible for obtaining such permissions.

Any costs arising from failure to obtain the necessary permissions will remain the responsibility of the Customer.

Electrical Requirements (Motorised Awnings)

Where motorised awnings are supplied, a suitable electrical supply must be available within reach of the installation location unless otherwise agreed.

Any electrical work required beyond the awning installation itself is the responsibility of the Customer unless specified in writing.

A standard 13amp supply is typically required unless otherwise specified.

Lighting & Heaters

Where integrated lighting is included within the awning, this is typically supplied with a junction box connection and can be connected as part of the installation, subject to a suitable power supply being available.

For awning heaters, these require a dedicated electrical supply and must be installed in accordance with their power requirements.

As a general guide:

  • Each heater typically requires a standard 13 amp power supply

  • Multiple heaters may require additional electrical capacity

  • The suitability of the existing household electrical system cannot be confirmed by John’s Blinds Limited

Customers are advised to consult a qualified electrician to confirm that their electrical supply is suitable, particularly where multiple heaters are being installed.

Any electrical upgrades required are the responsibility of the Customer and are not included within the awning installation.

Access for Installation

Customers must ensure safe and suitable access to the installation location.

If scaffolding, lifting equipment or specialist access equipment is required and was not identified during survey, additional costs may apply.

Installation may be postponed if the installation area is obstructed or if the working environment is considered unsafe.

Installation Adjustments

While every effort is made during the survey to identify installation requirements, site conditions may vary.

Where necessary, John’s Blinds Limited reserves the right to adjust the installation position of brackets or the awning to ensure safe and secure fixing.

Hidden Services & Structural Conditions

The Company cannot be held responsible for hidden pipes, cables or services within walls that are not visible during survey.

The Company shall not be liable for structural issues relating to walls, render, brickwork, cavity construction or other building conditions that may affect the long-term performance of the installation.

Fabric Characteristics

Awning fabrics are technical textiles and may display natural characteristics including creasing, rippling, pinholes or slight colour variation.

These are inherent properties of the material and do not affect the performance or durability of the product.

Installation Timing

Installation dates provided are estimates only and may be affected by weather conditions, manufacturing schedules, supplier delays or other circumstances outside the Company’s control.

Use & Weather Conditions

Awnings are designed primarily for sun protection and light rain.

Awnings must be fully retracted during strong winds, heavy rain, snow or adverse weather conditions.

Failure to retract the awning during such conditions may result in damage which is not covered under warranty.

Wind damage is the most common cause of awning failure and is not covered under warranty.

Maintenance & Care

Awnings must be maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

Use of pressure washers, harsh chemicals or unsuitable cleaning methods may damage the fabric and may invalidate the warranty.

Warranty

Awnings supplied by John’s Blinds Limited are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, typically up to five years depending on the product.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage caused by:

  • misuse or incorrect operation
  • failure to retract the awning during adverse weather
  • accidental damage
  • building movement or structural issues
  • lack of maintenance

Full warranty details are subject to the manufacturer’s specific warranty terms.

Warranty claims are subject to inspection and approval by the manufacturer.

Limitation of Liability

The Company’s liability shall not exceed the value of the goods supplied.

John’s Blinds Limited shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from the use or installation of the awning except where required by law.

Agreement

By confirming the order, the Customer acknowledges that they have read and accepted these External Awning Installation Terms together with the Company’s general Terms & Conditions.
