FAQs about Eyelet Curtains
Do Eyelet Curtains need a pole, and will they work on bay windows?
Yes, Eyelet (ring-top) Curtains are designed to slide on a Curtain pole, not a track. They’re best on straight runs. On bay windows, specialist bay poles with corner joints can be used but eyelets can snag at brackets and corners. For the smoothest bay glide, consider Wave Curtains on a track or a pleated heading on a bent metal track.
Can Eyelet Curtains be blackout and help with insulation, and how much fullness do I need?
Yes. Add blackout lining for bedrooms and thermal or interlining for warmth and a more luxurious drape. Allow roughly 1.8× - 2.2× the pole width for a balanced, full look (fabric and lining choice can nudge this up or down). Note: Eyelets aren’t fully blackout at the top, so pair with a blackout blind if near-darkness is essential.
What pole diameter and finish should I choose for Eyelet Curtains?
Most Eyelet curtains use 40 mm internal eyelets. A 28 - 35 mm metal pole gives smooth glide and strength. Avoid very thin or plastic poles for heavy or interlined Curtains. Position the pole approx. 10 to 15 cm above the window and extend approx. 15 to 20 cm beyond each side so the Curtains stack off the glass and maximise light.
