Hello, I’m Sue Baisden, the Managing Director of John’s Blinds Limited. My husband Steven and I proudly operate a family business specialising in made-to-measure Blinds, Curtains, and Shutters for both Residential and Commercial customers.

Our commitment to excellence has driven us to tailor our services meticulously. We’ve assembled a dedicated team of knowledgeable and friendly staff, to ensure our clients have the best experience possible. This is something I take immense pride in and continue to refine.

Our journey began on November 15, 2008, when we took over the business from my Father, John Margrain. I made a statement that day that remains true today: “Within 10 years, I want to make John’s Blinds a household name in Essex.” We envisioned it not just as a name, but as a service, an experience offered by trusted, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable employees who have grown with the business.

Now, years on from making that statement, we have a team of 12, some of whom have been with us since the beginning of this journey. We remain committed to reaching new heights, evolving and building the company brand. John and Janet Margrain laid the foundation for our family business back in 1975, with humble beginnings in Romford Market. Over the decades, they successfully ran their business in Romford and the surrounding areas, building a loyal customer base primarily through word of mouth and returning customers.

“I can still remember when there used to be livestock in the Market,” John Margrain recalls with a hint of nostalgia.

Fast forward to 2006 when Steven and I welcomed our first child, Samuel. I returned to work in the City of London, while Steven started working with John a few days a week, allowing Janet to care for our son. Steven began by learning the ropes on the Market stall and on non-market days, accompanied John by installing blinds in homes.

In 2008, I was expecting our second child, Emily, John offered us the business, as he was nearing his 65th birthday and looking to retire. We believed it would be a disservice to let the business fold, so we agreed to purchase it and build upon the established reputation that Janet and John had painstakingly nurtured.

As the saying goes, the rest is history…
