Choosing the Right Awning Size for Your Patio

Installing a patio awning involves choosing the right width and projection to suit your outdoor space. The width of the awning usually depends on the available wall space, while the projection determines how far the awning extends to provide shade.

Most residential awnings are available with projections ranging from around 2 metres up to approximately 3.75 metres, depending on the model.

When selecting an awning size, a few factors are considered:

• the width of the patio or seating area

• the projection required to provide sufficient shade

• the mounting height available on the wall

• obstacles such as lights, gutters or doors

Because awnings are installed at a slight angle to allow rainwater to run off, the shaded area will usually be slightly less than the full projection.

During the survey, we measure the installation area and recommend the most suitable awning size to ensure it provides effective shade while maintaining safe head height underneath.
