Pencil Pleat Curtains
Timeless Elegance with a Classic Finish
Pencil Pleat Curtains are a traditional and versatile choice, offering a neat, gathered look that suits both classic and modern interiors.
The tightly packed pleats create a structured yet soft appearance, making them an ideal option for any space.
The name is derived from the Curtain’s heading, which resembles a line of tightly packed pencils.
Pencil Pleat Curtains complement traditional interiors beautifully, but their adaptable style also works well in contemporary homes.

Why Choose Pencil Pleat Curtains?
Choosing the Right Lining & Tracks for Pencil Pleat Curtains
Pencil Pleat Curtains offer versatile styling options with the added benefits of insulation or blackout when paired with the correct linings. For a lighter, airier feel, you can opt for standard lining or elegant sheer fabrics.
Whether you prefer the classic appeal of a curtain pole or the smooth operation of a track, Pencil Pleat Curtains are compatible with both, providing you the flexibility to suit your space and lifestyle.
These curtains can be hung on Poles or Tracks made from a variety of materials, including metal, plastic or wood, allowing for further customization.
Adjusting the heading tape lets you create a more defined ‘ruff’ at the top of the curtains, adding texture and depth to the overall design.
With a wide range of colours and materials available, Pencil Pleat Curtains offer endless possibilities to complement any décor style.

FAQs about Pencil Pleat Curtains
What are Pencil Pleat Curtains?
Pencil Pleat is a classic gathered heading formed by drawing cords in a heading tape. We prep and knot the cords neatly, then set the pleats evenly for a tailored look. These are perfect for hanging under a matching pelmet.
Can Pencil Pleat Curtains hang from a pole or a track, and how do the hooks work?
They work on both. We insert curtain hooks into one of the tape’s pockets to set the finished height. On a pole, hooks go into the rings; on a track, they clip to the gliders. For bays or heavy fabrics, a quality metal track gives the smoothest glide and support.
How much gather/fullness do I need for Pencil Pleats and do you calculate it?
As a guide, allow around 2.0× to 2.5× the track/pole width for a well-balanced gather (fabric choice and interlining can nudge this up or down). Don’t worry, we calculate the exact widths, pattern repeats and pleat spacing for you so the Curtains meet in the middle, stack properly and clear handles/radiators.
